Hazara Democratic Party

The Hazara Democratic Party (HDP) is a political party in Pakistan that primarily represents the Hazara community of Balochistan, particularly in Quetta. It was formally established in 2003 and has focused on political representation, security, equality, and the rights of Hazaras.

Aims and Objectives

(I)

To struggle for the political, social, economic, and religious rights of the Hazara nation, and to pursue this struggle on the basis of equality and justice.

(II)

To maintain political and social relations with the Hazara nation at the international level.

(III)

To include the Hazara nation in the political sphere at the national and regional levels.

(IV)

To strive for the promotion and development of the Hazaragi language and culture.

(V)

To strive for the protection and promotion of democracy, democratic institutions, and democratic values.

(VI)

To work together with regional political parties to achieve the rights of People of Balochistan.

(VII)

To establish relations with the brotherly nations of the country, particularly those of Balochistan, on the basis of equality and fraternity.

(VIII)

To discourage Sectarian and extremist activities in the country and the province.

(IX)

To remain committed to promoting political and democratic values in society.

(X)

To Struggle for the rights of oppressed nations and communities around the world.

Hazara Solidarity Day – 1

Hazara Solidarity Day, observed every year on 1 October, was initiated by the Hazara Democratic Party (HDP) as a day of unity and solidarity among Hazaras worldwide. HDP called for the observance following the large international Hazara grassroots protests of 1 October 2011, when Hazaras in 29 cities across 17 countries raised their voices against the persecution and targeted violence faced by Hazaras in Pakistan.

The day was formally highlighted by HDP in 2011, when the party called upon Hazara communities around the world to observe 1 October as a day of solidarity. Since then, Hazara Solidarity Day has been observed through gatherings, rallies, cultural programs,and awareness activities in Quetta and other parts of the world.

The central message of the day is unity, peace, equality, justice and resistance to persecution. It also honors the victims of violence and highlights the importance of protecting Hazara identity, dignity and fundamental rights.

Hazaragi Culture Day — 19 May

Hazaragi Culture Day, observed on 19 May, is a day dedicated to celebrating and preserving Hazara/Hazaragi cultural identity, language, traditions, clothing, music, poetry, art, and history. The day is celebrated by Hazara communities in Pakistan, and around the world. Public celebrations have included traditional dress, music, poetry, storytelling, and cultural exhibitions.

Hazaragi Culture Day organized by HDP

In Quetta, Balochistan, the Hazara Democratic Party (HDP) has been associated with Hazaragi cultural programs. Records of an HDP cultural program in 2019 specifically refer to Hazaragi Culture Day on 19 May, with poetry and Hazaragi cultural performances.

These celebrations are important because they provide a public platform for Hazara people—especially young people and children—to display their cultural heritage and maintain connections with Hazaragi traditions.
